Atlanta is home to the busiest airport in the world, Hartsfield Jackson International Airport. It sits in the lower part of Atlanta, but isn’t far, at all, from some of the city’s major attractions and award-winning restaurants. If you are just stopping through on a layover, many convenient and high rated hotels surround the area, with a few even connecting directly to the airport via tram. So after scouring reviews and investigating amenities, we’ve concluded that these establishments rank above the rest.
Atlanta Airport Marriott Gateway
Only three hotels are connected to the Atlanta SkyTrain, a transport system separate from the Plane Train past airport security, and of course MARTA, a citywide system. For free, the SkyTrain transports guests to the airport, which is two minutes away, making this more convenient than one can comprehend if never having been to Atlanta’s overwhelming airport. The restaurant and bar are solid, and the overall look of the hotel is upscale and pristine.
Holiday Inn & Suites Atlanta Airport-North
Holiday Inn is an all-around good choice when going with a chain hotel. Clean, comfortable and practical, the one near the airport is no exception. A shuttle takes guests to and from the main entrance, which is only four minutes away. Important to note, this location does not serve a free breakfast, and also charges for parking. Yet you know your car is safe, and onsite airport parking is way more expensive. As for food, there’s typically some pretty great stuff inside Hartsfield Jackson, depending on your gate.
La Quinta Inn & Suites Atlanta Airport North
Free shuttle service is an important feature for a hotel to have, especially if you are staying because you have a flight to catch. The La Quinta Airport North not only has a shuttlebut a great hot breakfast with eggs, biscuits, sausage and waffles. With a modern rustic aesthetic, it’s a pretty cute place to hunker down during a long layover.
Renaissance Atlanta Airport Gateway Hotel
Beautifully elegant with a chic indoor pool, the Renaissance ranks high. It’s fun to watch the airplanes from the window while munching on dinner or just cozying up in the fluffy linens. The already gorgeous lobby just got a swanky update as well, which matches perfectly with the stunning look of the entire structure. The second of three total hotels to be connected to the handy SkyTrain, it’s the perfect balance of convenience and relaxation.
Homewood Suites by Hilton Atlanta Airport North
Parking onsite here is completely complimentaryand the free shuttle will take you to the drop off point. Definitely one of the better bargains, this hotel is cheaper and quite practical. A full, hot breakfast and even a generous amount of snacks are provided during your stay, which most certainly saves money. Kitchenettes are also available for simple food prep, and the quaint pool area is a great place to unwind.
Staybridge Suites Atlanta Airport
Another one with a shuttle, Staybridge has a 24-hour fitness room, laundry area and hot breakfast buffet. On the communal patio is an adorable putting green and plenty of space to lounge in the fresh air. The proximity to major attractions like Centennial Olympic Park, renowned restaurants and the Atlanta Zoo is a big bonus.
Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta
Absolutely magnificent architecture and lavish indoor decor meet all expectations, the Four Seasons is the most luxurious way to spend a layover. Guests can walk to Piedmont Park, which is beautiful year round and hosts many events like a market every Saturday in the warmer months. Relax in the soaking tubs which set in a marble bathroom, or head down to the spa. The massive indoor pool is filled with salt water, and a sauna resides right off the fitness room. Bar Margot is fantastic for cocktails and snacks, but you can also dine on delicious full meals.
Hilton Atlanta Airport
After traveling, you may not feel like exploring the restaurant scene, so the Hilton features three right inside the hotel—a lovely Italian restaurant, casual grill and a nice sports bar. Going above and beyond with their amenities, the resort style pool is like something you’d see in the Caribbean. Oh yes, there’s a shuttle here, too.
Hotel Indigo Atlanta Airport College Park
When the hotel kitchen harvests ingredients from their own garden and the beer is made in-house, it’s safe to assume it will be a great stay with plenty of attention to detail. Pretty color schemes flow through the whole space, and the expansive dining area is lovely, calming the nerves of on edge travelers. So sit back and sip on craft brews while enjoying a truly local Atlanta meal, without ever having to leave the hotel. But if you are up for it, Atlanta is quite a beautiful place to explore.
